About LED Grow Lights

LED grow lights are used in hydroponics to provide energy to the plants being cultivated indoors. They mimic the spectrum that sunlight provides to help plants grow.

There are varying types of artificial light that can be used in an indoor hydroponics setup. LED grow lights, or light emitting diodes, is one of the more popular options today. Not only do they run cool, but they can be adjusted to spectrum and intensity levels. They are also cost-efficient over time, though their initial investment is higher than standard incandescent lights.

LED grow lights are available in a variety of different colours, temperatures and spectral outputs. Each type of flower, plant, herb, or medicinal plant requires a different setting and time period. Kushy is here to help guide you and help to make your hydroponics setup much simpler.

LED grow lights are usually sold with their own ballast and encased with a heat sink and a built-in fan for cooling. They can easily be installed and plugged into your standard electrical outlet. One individual LED light has a specific range of colour, so a variety of different bulbs are installed into your LED grow lamps for more versatile growing.

Plants will initially benefit from green, red, blue light, and far red light on the initial root formation of your plants, then plant growth, and through to the flowering phase. Even though your LED lights may appear to emit white light, they are designed to emit on the red, blue, and green spectrums.

LED grow lights are particularly effective for indoor gardens that have mint, basil, parsley, lettuce, carrot, and cabbage. Flowers such as marigold and primula will grow well. When doing your set up you should install your LED grow lights at least 30 cm away from your plants if running lower wattage lamps of under 300 watts; and up to 91 cm away if running lights of higher wattages of over 1000 watts or higher. Your LED grow lights can be expected to last for 50,000 to 90,000 hours before needing to be replaced.
